Launching our new OLX Founders event
At the end of April 2019 the OLX Ventures team held their first OLX Founders Event.
Incorporating founders from across the OLX Group, its main purpose was to accelerate the path of AI in their respective businesses. Taking part were Tradus, Selency, Aasaanjobs, Frontier Car Group, letgo, Property24, Properati, Naspers, and local OLX businesses.
The team decided to stay away from conference rooms, sticky croissants, bad coffee and Wi-Fi connections, and instead spent 2.5 days camping in the Busa mountains outside Barcelona.
Sessions were held in old, often abandoned buildings, sometimes with Wi-Fi. As well as working, the teams hiked, drove 4x4s and learned about mindfulness and meditation.
Sessions included high-level AI discussions, as well as Data Acquisition Strategy, Machine Learning Platforms and Organisation & Talent.
Guest speakers shared their own best practices, and a particular highlight was an evening with Mar Cabra, Head of Data and Insights for the Panama Papers who apart from sharing her amazing journey, facilitated a session around Data Ethics in Society.
The event demystified AI, gave an holistic overview of the technology, and created an action plan for everyone over the next 12 months. Watch this space for more in the future!
